I have been predicting for more than a decade that higher education would someday – in the not-too-distant future – be free (or at least no longer charge tuition). Many of my colleagues have respectfully disagreed and we have carried on the debate.
Today, it became more important than ever for colleges and universities to develop alternative revenue streams, because yesterday, the State of Maine passed a bill to provide two years of tuition-free community college to state residents. And so it begins. Here is the press release:
