Humans + Robots: Coexist? Challenges and Successes of Human-Robot Collaboration
Dr. Prashant Doshi
Interim Associate Director, Institute for AI and Professor of Computer Science
University of Georgia
Robots are physically embodied artificial agents with varying levels of autonomy. From human-controlled robots with little autonomy such as drones to independent ones such as those in automotive assembly, robots are finding increasing use in our society. Are we then close to transforming our society by integrating robots with elevated levels of autonomy that can coexist and collaborate with humans? In this talk, we will focus on answering this key question by discussing the technical, human factors, and societal challenges that impede progress in this direction and review some of the ways by which researchers and practitioners are mitigating these challenges.

The Transformative Power in Mergers, Acquisitions, and Closures
Dr. Lynn Priddy, President and CEO, Claremont Lincoln University
Our mental models for mergers, acquisitions, and closures need radical rethinking. We still approach them with foreboding, interventionist tactics, and last-resort strategies or at best apply traditional and even integrated strategic thinking and planning from an institution-centric approach. Rarely do we actively seek out a new ecosystem of partners, value exchanges, and options for complete re-envisioning of higher education itself. Yet, as change leaders, we are poised not only to see this new future, not only to navigate Vail's whitewater of change but to ride those waves to a new higher education landscape. This session proposes a dialogue on a very different model for the change we seemingly most dread.
